A sense of belonging is one of our most basic needs – we spend our entire lives either immersed in deep connections or yearning for them. I notice how more and more people have skilfully isolated themselves from genuine closeness, the kind that sometimes needs patience. Not only in relationships with family and loved ones, but also in connection to nature and one’s own body.
And yet, I believe that loneliness is, to some extent, a natural part of life. No one can ever see the world in its entirety through our eyes. There is always a small part in each of us that belongs to no one else. In a way, I find that to be sacred.
I began taking photographs when I was a child. Later in life, I have often asked myself why I continue to do it. What is it about this process that fascinates me? I could answer that in numerous widely different ways, but one thing is certain – this visual language gives me the opportunity to show others how I experience the world, even if only for a moment. I feel like photography has become a tool for alleviating my feelings of isolation. It acts as an invisible bridge between people, creating moments of recognition or opening up entirely new perspectives.
The photography exhibition A(r)mor reflects the layered nature of love and trust, and the journey towards creating a profound relationship with oneself.
The exhibition was put together by the artist Luisa Greta Vilo and Mattias Ots, a member of Fotografiska Tallinn’s exhibitions team. The graphic elements were designed by Martin Kipper.
For me, photography is often a subconscious process — an immersion in the moment where I become an observer, allowing my senses to guide me intuitively. The stories within my photographs often reveal themselves only with time. My work engages with themes of vulnerability, introspection, and the search for meaning. I am drawn to the complexity of people and their endless, sometimes maddening questions about existence. These explorations can be as beautiful as they are painful, reflecting the deep yearning for understanding that defines the human experience. To express this, I often turn to motifs of nature, using them as metaphors for emotional and psychological states.
Through photography, I explore what it means to be human: How do we allow ourselves to be seen? How do we connect to our surroundings? My aim extends beyond visual representation; I seek to create images that enable others to recognize and articulate their emotions, to validate their experiences, and to honor the full spectrum of being — from pain to joy, from heaviness to light.
In 2023, I graduated from the Pallas University of Applied Sciences with a major in photography. Since beginning to exhibit my work in 2020, I have presented several solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows. My artistic activity has been recognized by Pallas University with a field scholarship.
